The deadline for the Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest has been extended until November 7, 2020. Altice USA, the parent company of Optimum and Suddenlink, announced its annual Hispanic Heritage Month essay contest in partnership with Univision. The essay contest invites middle and high school students to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by submitting an essay that describes a Hispanic person whom they consider to be a hero and why.
'We all have a hero. Someone we look up to. Someone who inspires us. Whether it is a civil rights activist, pop culture icon, or someone you know personally, heroes bring us hope when we need it the most.
*In 500 words or less, tell us about a Hispanic person, past or present, who you consider to be a hero and explain why.'
Who: Optimum and Suddenlink’s Hispanic Heritage Month essay contest in partnership with Univision
What: Hispanic Heritage Month essay contest for middle and high school students about a Hispanic person who they consider to be a hero.

When: Essay submissions must be received by 11:59 pm EDT on November 7th, 2020
Why: Grand prize finalists will receive a $1,500 scholarship.
Additional three finalists will receive an iPad. Separate prizes for middle and high school categories.

RSD's Flu clinic is scheduled for Monday, October 26 through Friday, October 30 across the district. Free Flu Vaccinations are available to all students, BOTH on-site and virtual learners, as well as staff.

Junior Varsity game begins at 5:00 p.m. and varsity game to follow. There is a $2 entry fee if you wear pink, (and $5 if you do not wear pink.)

Russellville Cyclone Virtual Academy, (RCVA) is a school within RSD that is virtual for students whose needs may be met better in a different environment than the traditional classroom.
The Buzz LMS is a Learning Management System where Lincoln Learning’s course content is housed and accessed by both teachers and students.
Lincoln Learning is an entirely online curriculum that gives students multiple ways to engage with, understand, and demonstrate mastery of the course content.
Any course can be modified to meet the needs of students.
The Course content is rigorous and includes lessons for all standards at each grade level.
The Lincoln Learning Content is based on the same grade level standard base as the Arkansas State Standards.
Buzz contains multiple tools to help students such as translation of the content on the page, highlighting, on-screen dictionary, and reading the text to the students if needed.

Correction from Friday, September 25:
It was stated in the Superintendent's report that there was a 42% increase in students quarantined when actually it was a 75% increase.
The corrected statistics are:
12 active positive cases (5 last week) among students (11) and staff (1).
9 staff members are quarantined (9 last week).
138 students are quarantined (79 last week) That is a 75% increase over last week.
A total of 159 students and staff are out of school or work as of this week (93 last week).


The Russellville Board of Education will conduct a committee meeting today at the Administration Building at 11:30 a.m.
